How Billi Pro is Empowering Members to Make Sustainable Choices

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest Billi Pro feature, which allows our members to view their carbon footprint based on their transactional history. This feature is part of our commitment to combat climate change, and it will help our members make more informed financial decisions and take steps toward a more sustainable lifestyle.

Last year, we committed to providing an easy way to measure your carbon footprint using Billi. Our vision included surfacing insights and tips based on your spending habits and providing alternative ways to minimize your daily footprint. So, we are excited to announce that we recently partnered with Doconomy, a market leader in providing individuals and corporations with innovative tools enabling efficient ways to reduce environmental impact.

Doconomy enables us to provide reliable carbon footprint data using their Åland Index, which is based on audited ESG reported data, compiled and analyzed by S&P Global Trucost, a leading provider of environmental data. The Åland Index covers more than 50 unique intensity factors, which enables automated calculations that reflect personal choices and is the first-ever CO₂e and H₂O Impact Index Independently Assured by EY. By using their technology, we can identify how refilling a car at a petrol station results in a different emissions profile to a purchase at a café.

With this feature, Billi Pro members can now see their carbon footprint on a transaction, category, and merchant level. This information can help you identify areas to reduce your carbon footprint and make more sustainable choices in your daily life, like eating a more plant-based diet or reducing your energy and water consumption.

As concerns around climate change continue to grow, the need for carbon removal has become increasingly important. The goal to limit the global average temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels is a widely recognized target by international climate organizations, including the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Paris Agreement. It is a collective goal set by the international community to address the threats posed by climate change. To accomplish this, we need to radically reduce the new emissions we put into the atmosphere and remove existing carbon already circulating, and we want Billi to help you do this.

With this in mind, the next steps on our roadmap for our carbon footprint feature are benchmarking your footprint against your peers and the ability to purchase carbon offsets directly in Billi. Benchmarking will provide context on what your data means and assess how you are doing compared to others. Carbon offsetting will allow you to easily purchase carbon credits from a diverse portfolio of global projects such as reforestation, soil carbon sequestration and many new upcoming technologies. By providing you with this information, we hope to inspire friendly competition and encourage you to make further changes to reduce your impact.

Over the past year, our members have submitted some great feedback on features for Billi and understanding their carbon footprint is a prime example. We are excited to launch this feature along with several others that have been highly requested such as Budgets and Custom Categories. These additional features will enhance the Billi Pro plan, making it an even more valuable tool to help you manage your finances and reach your goals.
